I had a Triceratops landlord once and he was really over-the-top patriotic, you know? He would always yell at me to put the flag up in the mornings and take it down at night, which I guess HE couldn’t do because he didn’t have DIGITS or something. Anyway I always did it because I was scared of the horns. Also I had to recite the Pledge of Allegiance every time I dropped off my rent.

…and then when he was drunk, he’d put on his tri-corner hat (naturally) and yell “The British are coming, the British are coming! One if by land, two if by sea, three by my horns, they won’t get by me! Buurrrup.”

In January 2010 the former Massachusetts governor proudly cast a ballot for Republican Scott Brown in the special election to replace the late Sen. Ted Kennedy. He didn’t own property in the state at the time, and had registered to vote listing his son’s unfinished basement as his residence. Massachusetts law defines a residence for voter registration purposes as “where a person dwells and which is the center of his domestic, social, and civil life.” Anyone found guilty of committing voter fraud faces up to five years behind bars and a fine of $10,000.

On one hand, he almost certainly didn’t live there and therefore cast a fraudulent vote; on the other hand, the mental image of Romney living in an unfinished basement smoking weed and watching Netflix in his sweats is pretty funny.

for those not in the know, night witches were russian lady bombers who bombed the shit out of german lines in WW2. Thing is though, they had the oldest, noisiest, crappest planes in the entire world. The engines used to conk out halfway through their missions, so they had to climb out on the wings mid flight to restart the props. the planes were also so noisy that to stop germans from hearing them combing and starting up their anti aircraft guns, they’d climb up to a certain height, coast down to german positions, drop their bombs, restart their engines in midair, and get the fuck out of dodge.

their leader flew over 200 missions and was never captured.

I didn’t really want to focus on the political in this blog, but some things are just too crazy, mean and ignorant to ignore.

Learning from the PR mistakes of Wisconsin’s Scott Walker and taking advantage of its comfortable majority, Republican leadership here in Ohio jerry-rigged the process, and cut some of the dissenters in its own party off at the knees, to slam anti-union bill SB-5 through committee to a senate vote, where it is expected to pass. Just for good measure, the nearly 600-page bill, which lawmakers had less than three weeks to digest before voting on, includes anti-gay marriage language. Because apparently the two similar laws already on the books, including a constitutional amendment, weren’t enough to keep down those insidious gay folk.

Meanwhile, pro-life politicians started a sideshow of ultrasounds at the State House to support “The Heartbeat Bill,” which would outlaw abortion at the first sign of a heartbeat, though many women may not even know they’re pregnant at that point. It’s one of a handful of such bills currently under consideration in the state, and even the state’s biggest right-to-life group is against it, because it doesn’t pass constitutional muster. Yet how much time will be devoted to the debate? Up to twice the time spent on SB-5. No matter that proposed budget slashes in early childhood programs and the demonizing of public school teachers aren’t exactly going to help these kids-to-be once they’re viably out of the womb.

So far, the Kasich administration hasn’t created job one, and has turned down hundreds of millions of dollars in job-creating, federal transportation and education funds (and lied about the details) because the governor didn’t like being told how to spend them. His team has told teachers and police to suck it up on benefits and pensions because there’s a budget crisis, while paying key staff and cabinet members more than their predecessors with the argument that money is the way to attract top talent.

It’s all a bullshit, bald-faced attempt to push through a morally and economically ultra-conservative agenda under a tattered cloak of job creation, to cement the decimation of the middle class through privatization and pitting the have-nots against the have-nothings, to tell gays to get the hell back in the closet, and to center the full value of a woman’s life around birthin’ babies, while ransacking the systems in place to make sure those babies are fed properly and well-educated.

As such, this work of art is hitting close to home today.
